CYLINDER Beach on North Stradbroke Island has been knocked off it's perch in the latest list of top beaches in Queensland.

Cylinder had been named the state's top beach for two consecutive years, however this year Coolum on the Sunshine Coast took top honours.
Redlands is home to one of the state's best beaches, with Cylinder Beach taking out number five on a Surf Life Saving Queensland's newest list of top beach locations.
Released to coincide with the end of summer, the annual list of Queensland's top ten patrolled beaches ranks popular locations based on safety, facilities and nearby services.
Acting Lifesaving Services Manager Nathan Fife said a range of factors had been considered when compiling the list and selecting an overall winner, with safety being the primary consideration.
"Safety is our core focus as we aim for zero preventable deaths in Queensland public waters. With that in mind, when determining our top beaches, we consider patrol times and services, incident history, coastal conditions and the quality of visitor information on display," Mr Fife said.
Mr Fife said SLSQ also looked at how user-friendly the beach was, which included considerations such as amenities, its location, access to parking and public transport, nearby services and cleanliness.
"Cylinder Beach is patrolled 365 days a year and is often protected from strong winds, making it a great beach for swimmers," he said.
SLSQ recorded more than 215,000 beachgoers at Cylinder Beach throughout summer, with surf lifesavers and lifeguards performing 13 rescues, 960 first aid treatments, and 21,391 preventative actions.
The top 10 beaches are Coolum, Alma Bay, Burleigh Heads, Four Mile Beach, Cylinder Beach, Nielson Park, Coolangatta, Rainbow Beach, Trinity Beach and Kings Beach.
