A NEW IGA supermarket modelled off the award winning Mount Cotton store is set to open at Cleveland in the coming weeks.
The new store will be located in the Ross Court shopping area on Bloomfield Street, about 200 metres from the Cleveland CBD, and will feature a built-in cafe, deli and fromagerie with 300 types of cheese.
Kombucha on tap and value-added produce such as freshly squeezed juice and pre-chopped vegetables will also be available.
Owners Jones Retail Group have modelled the design off the Mount Cotton Supa IGA store, which was recently named the best IGA store in Queensland.
The Cleveland store will be the latest in the business' rapidly growing supermarket portfolio, which includes IGA stores at Thornlands, Wellington Point, Redland Bay and Russell Island.
Jones Retail Group general manager David Kindt said the business was bringing the best of supermarket shopping to the Redlands.
"Many customers would be familiar with our flagship store at Mount Cotton, which interestingly enough just won the best IGA store in Queensland," he said.
"This new store is replicated precisely off that store. For our customers it is really a focus around food, healthy living, lifestyle and meal solutions.
"The store will be open 6am to 10pm seven days a week. The other main underlying point is that it is a competitively priced store.
"This is a supermarket, not a little IGA. It will pose genuine competition to Woolworths and Coles, that's how we see it."
The store will be called IGA on Bloomfield to distinguish it from the existing Cleveland IGA store on the corner of Shore and Wellington streets. About 120 people are expected to be employed.
Construction on the store is nearing completion but an opening date is yet to be confirmed.
