THE Redlands is one of three Queensland spots chosen to help boost the profile of renewable hydrogen.
State Development Minister Cameron Dick has announced Redlands MP Kim Richards as one of three hydrogen industry champions that will be appointed to help achieve the government's vision for a Queensland hydrogen industry.
Ms Richards said the position would enable her to advocate for renewable hydrogen in the Redlands and help implement the government's hydrogen strategy at a local level.
"The establishment of the renewable hydrogen pilot plant means that ground-breaking research can be undertaken by the project partners and the Redlands will be well-positioned for further renewable hydrogen projects," she said.
Champions were also appointed in Townsville and Gladstone.
Mr Dick said the hydrogen industry champions were part of works under way to implement the state government's hydrogen strategy.
"Our hydrogen champions will work with domestic and international stakeholders, build on existing relationships and projects, and catalyse investment in the state's hydrogen industry," Mr Dick said.
"The hydrogen champions will complement the Queensland hydrogen envoy and advisor in Japan Professor Sugiyama and Professor Ian Mackinnon, the Queensland strategic hydrogen advisor.
"We now have a champion representing Queensland's hydrogen interest at a global, state and local level.
"The Redlands is already benefitting from this emerging industry with the Queensland government's Redlands Research Facility to host the Queensland University of Technology-led renewable hydrogen pilot plant."
Mr Dick said with more than $8.5 million in funding, the facility would enable international collaboration between industry and researchers to optimise the technology for producing renewable hydrogen cost-competitively.
