Tina Truong of the Vienna Road Bakery at Alexandra Hills said that her shop had sold out of virtually all bread and bread rolls before lunch time yesterday.
"It was the same the day before too," she said.
Ms Truong said that people were coming into the bakery to buy mainly bread, fearing they would run out.
"I think they must be freezing it," she said.
She said the bakery had doubled bread production to meet demand.
"We're selling about the same amount as we do on weekends," Ms Truong said.
The bakery is known for a particularly tasty sourdough.
