DETECTIVES are investigating an attempted armed robbery at Cleveland on Monday.
The event has similarities to what was thought to be an attempted car jacking at Cleveland in February.
At 8.25pm on Monday, April 27, a 21-year-old man was driving his vehicle in the vicinity of Passage and Queen Streets when he was overtaken by a black SUV.
The SUV braked hard, causing the second driver to come to a sudden stop.
A Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch spokesperson said two men in their 20s jumped out of the SUV and approached him, holding what was believed to be a firearm.
They demanded the man hand over his car keys but he refused.
Police said the two men then assaulted him, causing minor injuries before they left empty-handed.
Police are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV or access to any dash cam footage between 8.10pm and 9pm in the Shore Street North, Passage Street, Middle Street and Cleveland CBD surrounds.
In February a Cleveland woman said she was the victim of an attempted carjacking.
Police were told a sedan swerved in front of the woman's car, cutting her off and forcing her to stop while she was driving on Shore Street West before 5am on Monday, February 17.
The sedan passenger was holding an unknown object when the pair approached the woman, who quickly drove away.
The driver followed her for a short time but pulled away when she turned into Middle Street. Shortly after, she flagged down police.
