Redland Bay Sergeant Graham Staib said thieves broke into a garage at Malcomia Street about 3am, stealing a Ford Falcon and an assortment of tools.
Browns Plains police found the vehicle burnt out near Bega Road, Kingston about 5.10am.
Sergeant Staib said it was the second vehicle reported stolen to Redland Bay station in April, a decrease on the six recorded in February and three in March.
He said there were no suspects but a few Redland Bay crimes had been linked to the Kingston area.
"They seem to be coming in from that way," Sergeant Staib said.
Mr Medland, the ute owner, said he was unaware his car had been stolen until he received a call from Browns Plains police station about 5.30am.
"I was sort of fumbling ... with the phone in my hands and nearly fell down the stairs," he said.
"I got to the door at the end of the garage and looked through and the garage door was up and the car gone."
A range of tools - including a leaf blower, laser level, jack hammer, drop saw and brush cutter - were in the car when it was stolen.
Mr Medland said the combined value of the tools would have been about equal to the value of the ute.
The tools had been stored in his car because he had helped his son build a retaining wall on Sunday afternoon.
"I had all the tools in there for his house," Mr Medland said.
"I bought it all back on the Sunday night and put it in the garage and the one night it was filled with tools, it goes."
A family friend has started a GoFundMe page to help the couple recoup the cost of the vehicle, as it was not insured.
More than $1900 has been raised.
Mr Medland said he had not experienced any other crime while living in Redland Bay.
Neighbours have been asked to provide footage from security cameras as police hunt the perpetrators.
So far this year 11 car thefts have been reported to Redland Bay Police Station.
Sergeant Staib said the number of reports had fallen in recent months, possibly due to the high percentage of people staying at home.
