MEMBERS of a social gathering at an Alexandra Hills property were slapped with fines and other charges for failing to comply with public health directives on the weekend but police say they are satisfied with the community's compliance in the wake of relaxed COVID-19 restrictions.
Senior Constable Luke Taylor, from Cleveland police station, said the group had been warned previously about guest limits but failed to comply and were handed infringement notices after police visited the the property.
It was one of a handful of fines issued across the Redlands and on the islands at the weekend, with a total of 101 infringement notices dished out across the state in the last 48 hours.
"On the whole, the public has been quite good," Senior Constable Taylor said. "We are happy with how things are going."
"We are hopeful that the government will further ease restrictions but in the meantime people are expected to comply with the current regulations in place and be responsible."
Beaches were teeming with people over the long weekend as families lapped-up the easing of restrictions.
Senior Constable Taylor said there had been a noticeable increase in the number of cars on the roads in the last few weeks and urged the public to be wary of traffic, particularly around national parks.
"People need to be mindful about the increased traffic as restrictions are eased," he said.
"In terms of push bike riders, we remind motorists that there needs to be a 1.5 metre gap as you drive past.
"People have been out cycling in greater numbers for the last three or four weeks."
A $1334 on the spot fine will be issued to people for failing to comply with public health directives.
