REDLAND City Council is set to open about 200 playgrounds and outdoor gyms, as well libraries, skate parks and community halls and the animal shelter as COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease this weekend.
It comes as part of the state government's plan for easing restrictions, the first stage of which begins on Friday.
Physical distancing, gathering rules and hygiene measures will still apply at all facilities.
Park facilities
Parks, playground equipment, skate parks, outdoor exercise equipment, basketball hoops and picnic settings will be open from Saturday.
Gatherings of up to 10 people will be allowed in outdoor, non-contact activity.
About 120 public barbecues across the Redlands will be turned on progressively as electrical safety testing is completed.
This is expected to take at least two weeks, which means that not all public barbecues will be available for immediate use.
Libraries
Mainland libraries at Cleveland, Capalaba and Victoria Point will reopen from Saturday.
A maximum of 10 people will be allowed in each library at a time and will be open for borrowing purposes only, not for computer use, meetings, or reading books or newspapers.
The libraries will not be open during the evenings at this time.
Council's home library service has also restarted for people who are unable to leave their homes due to illness or disability and for full time carers.
Online library services are continuing and residents can plan their visit to the library by checking the online catalogue and placing a book on hold.
The mobile library will recommence its usual service on Monday, May 18.
Dunwich and Russell Island libraries will also reopen this weekend, with the Point Lookout Library set to open on Tuesday.
The number of people allowed in these libraries at one time will be based on library size.
Amity Point Library will reopen at a later date, to be advised.
Animal Shelter
The South Street animal shelter at Cleveland will reopen on Saturday
Community halls
Mainland and island community halls are open for bookings from Saturday, with physical distancing, gathering rules and hygiene measures applying.
Dog off leash areas
Redlands Coast's fenced and gated dog off leash areas reopened on Friday, March 8.
What's still closed
Cleveland Aquatic Centre will remain closed for maintenance.
Council is set to reopen other facilities like IndigiScapes and Redland Performing Arts Centre at a later date, according to the state government's plan.
Mayor Karen Williams thanked community members for their work in helping to slow the spread of COVID-19.
"I'm pleased that we can all soon enjoy being out and about more, but keeping up the practices we've learned over recent months is vital to also keeping the spread of this virus slow and continue saving lives."
