PAST student, Llewellyn Tennant recently found himself in front of his old classroom at Cleveland District State High School.
Five years after graduating, Mr Tennant returned to tell of his experience in Tokyo to the Year 12 students studying Japanese.
Mr Tennant successfully completed his Bachelor of Languages and Linguistics majoring in Japanese at Griffith University and has been working as an assistant English teacher with an exchange teaching program in Tokyo for the past six months.
He spoke to the Year 12 students about the program application process, his role as an assistant teacher at the Keika Shogyou High School and his travel experiences throughout Japan.
Head of the school's language department Kylie Venamore said it was a proud moment as a teacher, to learn of past students' achievements in the workforce.
"After six months of living in Japan, Llew's Japanese language skills have developed to an exceptional level and naturally our students were very impressed," she said.
Mr Tennant provided advice to the students about persevering with their language studies and tips on how to improve their skills.
