Coochie identity Toby Gunnell is one of the Coochiemudlo Island's colourful characters and also one of its survivors.
An active 73-year-old Toby suffered a stroke back in January 2020 and had to be airlifted by Careflight helicopter to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
While he does not remember much of the ride, Toby is eternally grateful for the service which almost certainly could have had a far worse outcome.
Due to their isolated environment Coochiemudlo Islanders rely heavily on the Careflight service in times of emergencies like Toby's which have arisen from time to time.
To show their own appreciation Toby and partner Mel will hold a garage sale on Saturday, July 4, at their local landmark colourful residence at the corner of Elizabeth and Capembah Streets to raise funds for donation to the Careflight cause.
If customers can make a gold coin donation it will be appreciated.
Toby and Mel also expressed thanked the local Ambulance First Responders who came to his aid prior to the Careflight helicopter's arrival
Toby and Mel's campaign is also aimed at raising awareness with the many newcomers to Coochie and other islands about the services which are available.
