AS part of its billion-dollar SEQ Congestion Program, the LNP wants the crucial Eastern Busway extension shovel-ready.
LNP leader Deb Frecklington announced a $5 million investment to deliver the detailed business case for a 16km extension from Main Avenue at Coorparoo to Capalaba.
The busway will bust congestion by removing buses from Old Cleveland Road and boost public transport.
Oodgeroo MP Mark Robinson said this announcement puts the Eastern Busway project back on track.
It would deliver more high-frequency buses and an improved public transport network for eastern suburbs residents that connects to the Carindale shopping centre.
"The Eastern Busway extension is part of my plan to not only bust congestion but stimulate the economy and secure jobs in construction, engineering and planning as part of our COVID recovery," Ms Frecklington said.
"To stimulate the economy, we must invest for growth by building infrastructure to help drag Queensland out of this recession".
The government's south-east Queensland regional plan lists the Eastern Busway extension as the fourth highest infrastructure priority for the region.
A business case is needed to secure federal funding through the independent Infrastructure Australia assessment model, which is why it will be a priority for an LNP government.
"The LNP's infrastructure stimulus program will bust congestion and create secure jobs for Queenslanders.
"Construction of the new infrastructure projects will directly employ 3100 workers but will also result in thousands of secure flow-on jobs across the south east. Procurement will be fast-tracked and preference will be given to Queensland contractors," she said.
