THE woman who has led Queensland through the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young, will be the key speaker at a bayside event showcasing the strength and resilience of women.
This year's Soroptimist International Bayside Women's Voices will see women, including Dr Young, sharing inspiring stories of survival through tough times.
Leading Queensland's public health service for the last 15 years, Dr Young has been at the helm during natural disasters, including cyclones and floods, swine flu, and COVID-19.
A panel of inspirational local women will be interviewed and invited to share their experiences of survival through the pandemic.
Panellists include Alix Russo, founder of Night Ninjas, Dominique Fegan, arts administrator and mother of two young adults, and Jasmin Stephenson, community education counsellor at Capalaba State College.
"All these women have key roles in supporting vulnerable people in our local community," a Soroptimist International Bayside spokeswoman said.
Interviewing these women will be 2019 Channel 7 Young Achiever of the Year and 2019 Redlands Young Citizen of the Year, Madina Mohmood.
Survival stories will also be displayed on each of the tables.
"These stories have been gathered from around the world and highlight the common issues facing people throughout this pandemic," the spokeswoman said.
"Stories show the vulnerability of certain groups in our communities as well as systemic problems of aged care, homelessness, and domestic and family violence.
"We also recognise the incredible stories of communities coming together to support those less fortunate, of looking out for neighbours, the elderly, and those who are isolated, not to mention the incredible ingenuity of people and businesses who have creatively addressed the needs that became apparent."
Attendees can also support local business women by visiting trade tables on the night.
This event will be held on Monday, October 26 at the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club at 6pm.
Tickets cost $45, with concession tickets at $40 including a two-course meal.
