EIGHT of 11 Redlands Rays Baseball teams started the 2020/21 season with resounding wins.
Bowman MP Andrew Laming threw the first pitch before the division one season opener against Mudgeeraba on Friday night.
The division one Rays won both games of the series to put them in a good frame of mind at the start of the season.
"Getting two wins was an awesome start to the season and after everything that has happened this year, it's good to be back playing baseball," club coach Rhys Niit said.
"We swung the bats really well and pitched pretty good [sic]. I'm looking forward to seeing what this group of guys can do this year."
Rays T-Ball and rookie ball teams also started their season on the weekend with twelve tee-ballers shown the basics of baseball prior to the division one game on Friday night.
The rookie ball Stingrays played at home against Wests Red and Mantarays were away against Mt Gravatt Eagles.
This season Redlands is fielding its first ever women's team, who put up a valiant fight against a more seasoned Ipswich team away on Saturday afternoon, eventually losing 16-4.
Coach Stephen Schneider said the ladies performed well in their first hit out of the season.
"With only three or four training sessions under their belt it was an impressive first outing," he said.
"Our highlights included starting pitcher Amelia Callaghan pitching two complete innings, a double play started by third baseman, Ali Stephens, and scoring four runs.
"All the ladies had fun, with lots of smiles and laughs, and everyone is looking forward to the games still ahead."
The 2019/20 reigning masters champions were scheduled to play their first game on Monday night, while little league division one Devilrays had to reschedule their game against Pine Hills Lightning due to sporting conflicts.
This season is the first played under new club coach Rhys Niit.
He spent seven years with local club Brisbane Bandits and is currently signed with the Canberra Cavalry.
