Two blockbuster Australian films come to the big screen at RPAC this Halloween. These award-winning films will be screened as part of the Australian Film Series on October 31, with captioned and non-captioned screenings available for both films.
Dead Calm, starring Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill and Billy Zane, offers danger on the high seas. Mourning the tragic loss of their young son, Rae (Kidman) and John Ingram (Neill) take to the open seas for some peace and healing. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, in dead calm waters, they come across a wrecked vessel and rescue the sole survivor. They soon discover that in the middle of nowhere, there is nowhere to hide.
This award-winning 1989 psychological thriller-horror film was Kidman's breakthrough role. Dead Calm screens at 11am (non-captioned) and 2pm (captioned). (rated M, 96 minutes).
Lantana, stars Anthony LaPaglia, Geoffrey Rush and Rachael Blake. This steamy drama of professional and personal lives clashing in suburban Sydney received rave reviews. The film was the winner for best film, director, actor and actress at the 2001 Australian Film Institute Awards.
It screens at 4pm (captioned) and 6.30pm (non-captioned). (rated M, 121 minutes).
