REDLANDS mainland libraries at Cleveland, Victoria Point and Capalaba are drop-off points for Secret Santa donations for senior residents living in isolation.
Mayor Karen Williams said council was pleased to support STAR Community Services' annual Christmas appeal for the second year.
"Christmas is usually a happy occasion but for many senior residents, especially those who are isolated or living alone, it can be one of the toughest times of the year," she said.
Cr Williams said this year has been especially challenging due to COVID-19, with many senior residents still concerned about going out in public.
"Their situation has been exacerbated by the cancellation of many of the events and programs that aim to help combat social isolation," she said.
STAR development coordinator Catherine Williams said 650 people received gifts last year and more than 2900 food items were distributed to those in need.
"We are expecting demand to be even greater this year with people having to isolate and stay in their homes because of COVID-19," she said.
Ms Williams said all items collected in Redland City will be distributed in the area, on both the mainland and islands.
Donations of gifts suitable for people over 65 and non-perishable food items can be left inside Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point libraries during opening hours until December 20.
- Suggested gift ideas include socks, coffee, towels, vouchers, pamper packs, hand cream, fruit cake, tea cups, crockery and household goods.
