Holey horror
Filming of Holey Moley at South Street hard against our neighbourhood has to be one of Redland City Council's nastiest decisions.

Screaming crowds and staff on loudhailers waking us up through the night for days on end? Check.
Screaming crowd plus lighting and searchlights scanning the night sky to disturb the creatures in the adjacent conservation reserve? Check.
Screaming crowd plus lighting and searchlights to traumatise the already traumatised animals in council's adjacent dog pound? Check. Cutting down 15 trees including koala trees and old trees full of hollows for our birds, when koalas and birds are already struggling? Check.
Making the decision with no public consultation and no thought for the impact on our neighbourhood, then not telling us it was coming? Check. Signing a three-year lease so other countries can arrive and film, week after week? Check.

Miserable midges
My family was unaware of the existence of midges for many years. But we know now.
When we step into our garden, life becomes miserable. We are attacked by midges from morning until dusk.
Cr Paul Golle tells us in the Redland City Bulletin that midges breed in the Moreton Bay Marine Park so would it not make sense to leave the wetlands undisturbed.
I would not want to live in a unit on former wetlands. Cr Golle also tells us midges are active only from September to April. Eight months seems like a long time to me.

Dogs saved me
My two dogs saved my life after the Queensland hospital system failed me.
I had many bouts of severe depression and no amount of dogs would alleviate my state. I was sent home to await my impending death. I had lost more than 60 kilograms.
A lady loaned me two therapy dogs which is the reason I am still on earth.
I read the anti-animal and anti-dog stories with despair. The letter from L. Wilkins (RCB, Oct 21) leaves me flabbergasted. They think they are the silent majority.
Cannot we have an editorial ethic for the RCB that reflects the benefits for all God's creatures to we human beings?

Say 'no' to dog laws
Pretending that dogs will be on leash is a lie (under proposed bylaw changes in some places). There is little interest from council to fine or enforce dog regulations and certainly not successfully.
The price is paid for by the poor wildlife chased with their chicks. Dogs will not be on leashes and nothing will be done about it. Say "no" to more dogs in these areas where people are already not obeying laws and getting away with it.

Toni not Green
I read your article "Robbo, Claire in poll day brawl" in which one of Claire Richardson's volunteers was described as "former Greens Cr Toni Bowler".
This assertion is false. The Greens is a party that has been in state and federal politics in the Redlands for many years. The Greens have never stood candidates in council elections in the Redlands let alone had a Greens councillor elected.
I am sure MP Mark Robinson is well aware of this, so I am mystified as to why he would have claimed that, unless he was misquoted.
I know Ms Bowler well and she has always been a hard working advocate for the people of the Redlands. She was not a "Greens councillor" and has never been a member of the Queensland Greens party.
Greens volunteers were happily engaged in our own campaigns in the Redlands and Independent Claire had her own team.

Promises, promises
With all the promises made by politicians in the lead up to the election, I cannot wait to see the Redlands with a new this, a revamped that, a widened this and a better serviced that. We will sparkle.
With the remote chance some promises do not eventuate I propose the following, and I'm sure winning candidates will agree as they are certain of their promises. Right?
We tie their superannuation and entitlements to promises. That way if we feel the pain of unfulfilled promises, they help share the pain financially.

Left wing Labor tosh
You published an article about the NSW premier (RCB, Nov 5). Please explain the motivation as this has nothing to do with the Redlands or Queensland. It read as a left wing Labor article. This is not the first time that I have read Labor-sided letters which have no relevance to Redlands.

Editor: The article was about political spin. In this case it was Gladys Berejiklian. They all do it, including Labor.
Impossible proposition
There have been letterbox drops on the impossible proposition that COVID-19 is spread by 5G and the fatuous nonsense that vaccinations cause autism. A casual search confirms autism is genetic. Brain trauma and severe organ failures may cause autism-like symptoms. Vaccinations may cause adverse effects but they are rare. The same could be said for food, medicine or natural products used as complementary treatment. If the latter worked to the threshold of medicine there would be no medicine.
