THREE Redlands Hockey athletes have helped the Met East team to its first win in 25 years in the under 12 school state championships on the weekend.
Tim Anemaat, Jake Daly and Sebastian Curnow represented Met East at a tournament in Ipswich in late October, battling tough competition and inclement weather to help the team tie for first place.
It came after male and female teams from the bayside trialled at the Met East tournament in Term 3.
Players included members of associations and clubs across the bayside district.
From there, the three Redlands boys were selected to play for the primary school Met East team.
They competed in the under 12 school boys tournament from October 22 to 25.
From their 10 games, they won seven, drew two and lost just one.
The final was a nail-biter, with Met East and Wide Bay evenly matched before lightning put a stop to play with six minutes to go.
The final result was a 5 all draw.
A Redlands Hockey Association spokeswoman said hockey was increasingly popular in the bayside region, with the standard of play rapidly improving.
"Bayside continues to grow in numbers and hockey ability since the district was represented in 2012 with just a handful of boys and girls," the spokeswoman said.
"This tournament is a wonderful opportunity for young players to strive for selection in representative hockey."
It is an exciting time for Redlands Hockey, with three of their under 16 players recently selected for the state development squad.
