VINNIES is on the lookout for volunteers to assist in its Redlands op-shops during the Christmas rush.
South Coast region retail operations manager Buffy Charles said assistance was required at its Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point stores, particularly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The charity hopes to recruit 240 new volunteers across the state over the holidays.
"It is one of busiest periods and obviously one of our highest periods of donations, because a lot of people are cleaning out their house getting ready for Christmas," Ms Charles said.
"After Christmas when everyone is on holidays and everyone is having a good time, people love to shop.
"They have cottoned onto the idea that shopping at Vinnies stores is a great thing, not just for saving the bank balance but also recycling.
"It is becoming more popular and we are extremely busy during January when everyone is away."
Ms Charles said the Christmas period was often the hardest time to recruit and retain volunteers, as many people had other commitments.
"We are always looking for anyone who can come in and help us out at those times," she said.
"Throughout the three stores, we are looking for people, particularly Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
"Tuesdays especially at Capalaba and Victoria Point. Overall, we don't say no to people who have got a few hours to come in and help volunteer."
Items in high demand this time of year included summer clothes and children's wear.
"Shoes, homeware and bric-a-brac have been really popular since we have come back from the shutdown too," Ms Charles said.
"I think people are looking to do a little more out of the box rather than having what everyone else has got."
Millions of dollars in revenue was lost due to Vinnies shop closures during COVID-19 but Ms Charles said there had been a recent surge in sales.
"Business has been up and down," she said. "We went into shutdown in March and didn't reopen until May.
"Then things started to go really well but we had a few scares with a couple of clusters, and that sort of changed things.
"It is good to see a bit of a revival in sales and people getting back into their normal routine and coming back to us."
With funds raised through its stores, appeals and corporate partners, Queensland Vinnies provided $7 million in support last financial year for bushfire, drought and COVID-19 assistance.
