SOUTH-EAST Queensland is being urged to brace for wild weather this afternoon and evening.
The Weather Bureau has already issued a warning for parts of the region as thunderstorms begin to develop.
Damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall are possible at places like Cleveland, Jimboomba and Beaudesert across the next several hours.
Meteorologist James Thompson said thunderstorms were most likely to occur during the afternoon and evening.
Supercells were also possible, according to the Weather Bureau.
"Heavy to intense rainfall, large hail and damaging to destructive wind gusts are all possible with thunderstorms," he said.
"These are most likely in areas between the New South Wales border and up to the northern Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay regions."
There is a 90 per cent chance of rain in Logan and the Redlands, and a 95 per cent chance at Beaudesert.
Emergency services are reminding people to move their car undercover or away from trees, secure loose outdoor items, avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm and beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
Mr Thompson said a cool change was due late Tuesday and could be followed by a bout of wet weather.
"Later in the week and into the weekend, we start to see the tropics becoming more active, with a tropical wave moving into the Queensland and Australian region," he said.
"This means that increased rainfall becomes a risk from next week, with the tropical weather and moisture moving into the Queensland region."
