SOUTH-EAST Queensland could be in for a wet weekend, with falls up to 100mm possible for some locations.
Redlands, Logan and Beaudesert are all a 90 per cent chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday, according to the Weather Bureau.
Meteorologist Rosa Hoff said a number of weather systems had been unaffected by the La Nina rain event over the last few weeks, but that pattern was predicted to change.
"Cloudy and showery conditions are likely to increase with the development of any coastal trough and we have the potential for some heavy falls across the south-east region," she said.
"It is possible we could see as much as 100mm in some areas across the next few days, particularly between Friday and Monday at this stage."
Redlands could receive up to 30mm on Saturday and 50mm on Sunday.
Falls up to 100mm are possible for exposed and elevated parts of the Gold Coast hinterland on any given day across the weekend.
Rainfall is expected to peak on Sunday, according to Ms Hoff, with Logan and Beaudesert a chance of receiving up to 45mm.
"It is worth noting that with this increase in activity around the south-east coast, thunderstorms are less likely," she said.
"It is more likely that we will have a big cloud band with a lot of embedded showers bringing those heavy falls."
Ms Hoff said the strong potential for extensive rainfall this weekend highlighted the looming threat of La Nina.
