STAGE one of the Redland Hospital expansion is set to be completed late next year.
This comes after Oodgeroo MP Mark Robinson asked Health Minister Yvette D'Ath for an update on the Redland Hospital intensive care unit upgrade.
In September last year, former Health Minister Steven Miles, Redlands MP Kim Richards and Capalaba MP Don Brown announced the hospital would get funding for an expansion.
The question was tabled in Parliament yesterday after Mr Robinson asked the minister for an update on funding for the new $62 million, 32-bed ward and six-bed intensive care unit and timeline details of the promised stage two full hospital expansion.
Ms D'Ath said the demand for health services in the Redland area has significantly increased over the last 10 years due to a growing and ageing population, resulting in additional presentations to Redland Hospital.
"The Palaszczuk government is investing $32 million for the delivery of stage one of the Redland Hospital expansion. This is in addition to the federal government funding contribution of $30 million for the project," she said.
"An extensive consultation and engagement process is currently underway with clinicians and stakeholders to design the facility, including health service planning experts, architects, engineers and quantity surveyors," she said.
Ms D'Ath said the stage one project will support 179 full time equivalent jobs in the construction sector over the life of the project.
