UPDATE Monday
POLICE have appealed for people to check their yards and bins for items after the suspicious death of a man in Wynnum last week.
Just after midday on Wednesday, January 6, police were called to a Ronald Street home where the 45-year-old man was found with significant head injuries.
Members of the public in the Wynnum and Mount Gravatt areas listed below are asked to check their yards and rubbish bins and to contact police if they locate anything matching the items listed.
In particular, officers are looking for the following items which may have been discarded after January 6:
- a pair of black running shoes, with white soles and a white Nike motif on the side
- a pair of earphones with a white cord
- a green and white cooler bag, most likely Woolworths brand
- a dark coloured baseball cap
- a pair of sunglasses with dark lenses and a light-coloured frame
Detectives have requested residents check their properties in the Wynnum and Wynnum North area, including Ronald Street, West Avenue, Stradbroke Avenue, French Street, Bellew Street, Cameron Parade and all other streets within the vicinity.
Residents of the Mount Gravatt area including Creek Road, Logan Road, Gowrie Street, Gosford Street, Tenby Street and all other streets within this area were also asked to check their bins and yards.
A 24-year-old Mount Gravatt man was arrested on the weekend and charged with murder.
He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
EARLIER
BAYSIDE detectives have launched an investigation after a man's body was found in the bedroom of a Wynnum home on Wednesday afternoon.
Police were called to a home on Ronald Street shortly after 12pm, where the 45-year-old's body had been discovered by a friend.
East Crime Group Detective Inspector Steve Hollands said the death appeared suspicious.
A crime scene has been declared and forensic examinations are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Hollands said the man was thought to have died between 1am and midday on Wednesday.
"It's too early to tell what's caused his death," he said.
No persons of interest had been identified yet, but police had found 'items of interest' at the address.
"It does not appear that robbery is a motive," Detective Inspector Hollands said.
Police spoke with the man's next-of-kin this afternoon.
The man lived alone.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have heard anything, saw something or someone out of place between 1am and 12pm on Wednesday at Ronald Street, or anyone with relevant CCTV or dash cam footage in the area to contact them.
Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch, homicide squad, forensic and intelligence officers are investigating.
