A SLICE of the 2021 Sydney Festival is coming to North Stradbroke Island, with a screening of Bangarra Dance Theatre's Spirit: a retrospective 2021 to be held in the coming months.
NBN, a regional partner of the Sydney Festival, will create pop-up community events across the country, where a recording of the performance will be screened.
The performance, entitled Spirit: a retrospective 2021, premiered on Wednesday night at the festival.
It celebrates the unbroken connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to the land and helps audiences connect with stories and songlines from across the nation with a collection of work from across the Bangarra Dance Theatre's history.
Sydney Festival director, Wesley Enoch, is a Noonuccal Nuugi man from North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).
"The performance of Spirit is an incredibly evocative work from one of our country's most renowned performing arts companies," he said.
"For people (on Minjerribah) to have access to a filmed performance of this extraordinary piece is something to be celebrated."
NBN Co chief regional and remote development officer Gavin Williams said the performance showcased some of Australia's finest performers.
"Hosting these pop-up community events provides an opportunity for regional Australians .... to experience one of the Sydney Festival's leading acts without needing to leave their home town."
The date and location of the screening have yet to be confirmed, but the event will be free.
