LAP swimmers can start limbering up for their daily dive after the 50-metre pool in Cleveland reopened yesterday.
The Cleveland Aquatic Centre closed in March last year due to COVID-19 and council took the opportunity to do maintenance work on the pools.
Work had already started at the centre to trace and repair a suspected leak in the 50-metre pool as COVID-19 restrictions first began.
The 25-metre outdoor pool, indoor pool and children play pool reopened in October last year, while work continued on the larger pool.
Council said it had checked and tested the 50-metre pool systems and it was now ready for swimming carnivals and other activities.
Mayor Karen Williams said the investment was great news for locals looking to make a splash his summer.
"I know Redlanders love our pool and this investment means local families will enjoy it even more."
She thanked former Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe and the state government for their investment
"This is a great example of what can be achieved when local and state government work together for the community," she said.
Cr Williams said the project helped deliver local jobs when they were needed most, with council targeting local suppliers and contractors for the project.
In 2017 council proposed a $71 million rebuild of the Cleveland Aquatic Centre, with a plan to move Surf Life Saving Queensland away from its Brisbane CBD South Bank headquarters.
Cr Williams wanted the Queensland and federal governments to fund two thirds of the proposal. The project was earmarked to have an Olympic pool, learn to swim area, helicopter rescue facilities, deep water training, auditorium, accommodation and grandstand.
