Molly Redgwell, 10, writes letter to councillor Paul Golle asking for new park in Sandalwood Street, Thornlands

Molly Redgwell's wish was granted this week when she got to slide, swing, and seesaw in a community park on Sandalwood Street.

The 10-year-old emailed Cr Paul Golle a letter asking for park equipment in October 2018. Molly and her family were one of the first families to move into the area about four years ago.

"Cr Golle put flyers in the postboxes asking residents what he could do for them and Molly took up the challenge," said mum Bec.

Molly wrote: "There is no playground within a safe travelling distance from our home.

"I play with lots of other kids in my street and we would really love it if there could be some playground equipment like monkey bars, slides, swings, a basket swing, basketball hoop, a flying fox, a playhouse and a climbing wall in an undercover area to keep us safe from the sun."

Cr Golle said he met with officers and asked to have money from council's community infrastructure fund diverted for the park equipment.

The Redgwells and other families often gather in the open space to BBQ and relax while the children play outside.

"There are a lot of young families in the area and bringing the community together is what it's all about.

"Molly was incredibly brave to write to me... this is what makes my job worthwhile," Cr Golle said.

Molly celebrates her 11^th birthday this month and will be in the park on her favourite ride - the flying fox.
