A PERMANENT tribute to the three lives lost in Alexandra Hills on Australia Day is being considered.
Redlands Mayor Karen Williams said she had spoken to Matt Field's father last week about a memorial for Kate Leadbetter, Matt and their unborn baby boy.
The couple were killed while walking their dogs when they were struck by a four-wheel-drive on the corner of Finucane and Allenby roads.
"I have spoken with Matt's family and offered my support in anything they need to get through this difficult time.
"One discussion we had centred on a permanent reminder of Kate, Matt and Miles and I have been speaking with council officers to come up with some ideas," she said.
Cr Williams said she was conscious that because Finucane Road was a state government road, any memorial would need to be approved by the state government's Transport Department.
"I will speak with them at the appropriate time about this," she said.
Cr Williams said it was a very sensitive and personal matter for both families.
"I have always committed to taking their lead and to only progress such ideas in a way and at a time that shows them the respect and space they need," she said.
Speaking to ABC Radio last Thursday, Cr Williams said the Redlands community spirit was second to none.
"There is still a lot of grief, anger and questions to be answered... I do acknowledge the state has started to move to look at amendments to the (youth justice) legislation.
"We have half the criminal statistics that most of Queensland has. We are living in a safe place and a lot of these crimes happen when people come into our city," she said.
