ARTISTS from the Queensland Filipino-Australian Arts Association hosted an art exhibition titled Mother and Child in Capalaba.
The event was dedicated to QFAAA lifetime member Agnes Whiten who has a long list of achievements and services in the public and private sector.
Association president Ivabelle Bernabe said Ms Whiten had became the mother figure of many filipino and other ethnic background migrants in Brisbane.
The week long exhibition at the Capalaba Global Business Centre boasted 23 artists
Judges, cultural services program leader at Logan City Council Annette Turner, assistant curator at the Queensland Museum Carmen Burton, and Mindanao-based visual artist Abraham Ambo Garcia had the arduous task of choosing the best paintings.
First place went to Dr Joanne Frangue for her beach scene of a mother and child, second place, Yolanda Talin and third prize was awarded to Cheever De Guzman.
The Queensland Filipino-Australian Arts Association aims to discover and foster Filipino-Australian artists by acknowledging their artistic excellence in social, economic and cultural opportunities.
Ms Bernabe said the association promoted Filipino-Australian talents in arts with artistic activities and exhibitions for the community including visual art, literature, music and dance as well as fashion design, interior design and architecture.
The group is also a platform for experienced artists to mentor young aspiring artists.
