POLICE have charged a 20-year-old Russell Island man after the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl on Macleay Island on Wednesday.
Just before 4.30pm, police say the girl got off a bus near Hamilton Parade, where the man allegedly started to follow her.
Police allege as the girl approached the intersection of Williams and Arthur streets, the man assaulted her, forced her into nearby bushland and sexually assaulted her. She lost consciousness.
When she came to, she resisted the man, who fled. She raised the alarm and a nearby resident came to her aid.
The girl did not know the man.
He was later located in bushland off Cooee Crescent and arrested.
Police charged him with rape and disabling to commit an indictable offence.
He is set appear in court today.
