THE Bureau of Meteorology has predicted fresh to strong south-easterlies will dominate east coast weather for the long weekend.
"A strong wind warning is current for all waters north of Burnett Heads and will likely extend to the NSW border by Monday, contracting to the Townsville waters from Saturday afternoon," meteorologist Matt Marshall said.
"A deepening low pressure trough and low will increase rainfall along the Capricorn and Fraser coasts this weekend, followed by rapid deterioration of conditions in the southeast from Sunday to Tuesday.
"There is a risk of heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and damaging surf for the Capricornia, Wide Bay and southeast coast."
Mr Marshall said the main impacts were expected along the coastal fringe and elevated terrain with daily rainfall totals of 50 to 150 mm possible.
"Stream showers will persist in the coastal tropics, potentially easing from Sunday on the northern side of the low," he said.
"Lighter rainfall totals will spread inland to the Central Highlands and Darling Downs from Saturday, with an isolated storm possible as far west as Longreach/Charleville, though generally dry conditions prevailing for the deep interior."
