The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter has joined the search for a surf ski rider, missing off North Stradbroke Island.
The pilot conducted a grid search of an area east of Moreton Island and to the north of North Stradbroke Island.
The crew searched for two hours, without any sign of the missing person, before returning to base to refuel.
The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter is temporarily based on the Sunshine Coast, while the familiar blue and yellow RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter undergoes scheduled work.
The Weather Bureau has forecast south to south-west winds 20 to 25 knots and seas to 1.5 metres for Moreton Bay, with conditions easing through the week.
The Environment Department wave monitoring buoy off Brisbane has measured offshore swells to near 7 metres today.
Fifteen vessels and four helicopters are involved and there will be a land search of Moreton and North Stradbroke Islands.
EARLIER:
ONE man has been found safe while a second remains missing in Moreton Bay after the pair went for a long distance paddle at North Stradbroke Island in hazardous conditions.
Water police continue the search and rescue operation to find the 26-year-old man who remains missing from Stradbroke since yesterday morning (May 29).
Police said the search began yesterday when two men failed to return from a mid-morning surf ski expedition between Dunwich and Cylinder Beach.
About 8pm last night, a 28-year-old man made it to the Amity Point Wharf.
The Queensland Ambulance Service reported that he was taken to Marie Rose Hospital at Dunwich in a stable condition but suffering from hypothermia just before 8pm.
The 26-year-old man could not be found as an air search continued throughout the night.
At first light this morning the search was expanded, with further hazardous seas expected.
Fifteen vessels and four helicopters are involved and there will be a land search of Moreton and North Stradbroke Islands.
Anyone with information regarding the remaining man's location is urged to contact police immediately.
It comes as the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called in by Ambulance New South Wales after a request from Queensland Ambulance Service to help find two jet ski riders who reported being stuck on mud flats after their jet ski had broken down earlier in the afternoon just west of Russell Island.
Marine rescue agencies were also searching for the men, finding them on the mud flat which was accessible only by air.
The rescue helicopter arrived soon after and lowered a paramedic where he treated both men for hypothermia before they were winched up and flown to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Two men were also rescued by the Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter after their boat was swamped in rough conditions while a man nearly drowned after his boat flipped while trying to cross the Maroochy River bar on the Sunshine Coast.
The incidents have occurred after warnings from police and Coast Guard about people venturing out in unsafe conditions, or trying to travel too far in small craft like small boats, jet skis, kayaks and canoes.
Many have appeared to have no basic boating or safety knowledge or understanding of Moreton Bay conditions where steep and dangerous waves can whip up in a relatively short period.
Last month a 21-year-old man disappeared from his tinnie, presumed drowned in Moreton Bay.
A 21-year-old also died after going kayaking from Dunwich to Peel Island.
In 2019 Coast Guard, VMR and police boats and helicopters found a 40-year-old man whose kayak had capsised off Wellington Point in 40km/hr winds.
Police also had to rescue a man who started out on a swim from Redland Bay to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
