Surf Life Saving Queensland has secured a $30 million funding agreement with the state government, with the cash to provide for improved frontline beach safety and technology upgrades.
The four-year deal will also support training and public safety education with Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan describing it as a significant investment in community safety.
"Surf Life Saving Queensland plays a vital role in keeping Queenslanders and tourists safe when they're enjoying our beautiful beaches," he said in a statement.
"We're known for our wonderful waterways and this funding will continue their important work and support their vision of zero preventable deaths in Queensland public waters."
SLSQ president Mark Fife said the agreement would allow the organisation to grow its capability and capacity on Queensland beaches.
"It will further empower our volunteers, clubs and branches in providing the best possible frontline beach safety," he said.
"The new agreement will see us upgrade our current communications structure at our State Operations Communications Centre over the next two years.
"We will upgrade our technology, including drones and our two helicopters."
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Greg Leach said a modern public safety organisation needed to reflect the changing needs of the community and Surf Life Saving Queensland had demonstrated the ways it was embracing different technologies to keep beachgoers safe.
"From helicopter flyovers to rescues using jet skis, inflatable rescue boats and drones dropping an inflatable device in a pod, SLSQ volunteers have shown they can respond quickly to calls for help," he said.
