Plans will push ahead to build a new fire station servicing Mount Cotton and surrounding areas.
A site at the intersection of Mount Cotton Road and Coorang Road has been marked for the new Mount Cotton Road Fire and Rescue Station with works starting next year.
The new station was a $12 million election promise by Springwood MP Mick de Brenni and included land and construction costs of $7.2million.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service Commissioner Greg Leach said in choosing a location for the new station, multiple sites were considered.
"The analytics for the Mount Cotton Road site best supported our operational response model and the ability to deliver first-class fire and rescue services for the Mount Cotton and surrounding communities," he said.
Mr de Brenni said the project would come equipped with firefighting equipment and bushfire response capability.
"I've been working alongside our local community to ensure we could get this important project underway as soon as possible."
Mr de Brenni said planning was underway with construction due to commence next year and completion in 2023.
Cr Julie Talty who has been pushing for a rural fire brigade for years said she supported the new station in Mount Cotton Road.
"The Mount Cotton and Redland Bay communities live with significant risk to wildfire, and I am pleased that our state government is providing greater support to this area for emergency response through their commitment in support of both the formation of the Brisbane Region Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade and the new fire station," she said.
Capalaba MP Don Brown, said he valued any investment that kept people in his community safe.
"This new fire station will be especially valuable for protecting rural blocks, houses and businesses at the southern end of Capalaba, next to bushland."
Redlands MP Kim Richards, said the new station would accommodate various regional functions that were expected to include a helipad to service surrounding areas, including the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
"Once built there will also be jobs for locally based, fully-trained firefighters and support staff."
State secretary of the United Firefighters Union Queensland John Oliver said it was a great site for the station and professional firefighters.
