Resuming their second innings at 1-42, WA made it to 3-130 before an early stumps was called, with Shaun Marsh on 45 and Hilton Cartwright yet to score.

It gave WA an overall lead of 116 with just one day remaining.

More rain is forecast on Wednesday, meaning the match is unlikely to produce a result unless there is a massive batting collapse or a generous declaration.

"It was a little bit of a frustrating day with the weather around, but you can't really control the weather too much," Marsh said.

"We had to fight hard today, it was tough work out there. Hopefully we get a full day tomorrow ... to hopefully get a result.

"We have to bat well in the morning and then we'll reassess later on in the game.

"There's still plenty of overs there to get a result. There's still 112 overs in the game and hopefully the weather stays away tomorrow morning."

Sam Whiteman (49) and Cameron Green (13) were the only two wickets to fall on Tuesday.

Star WA paceman Jhye Richardson couldn't take part in the game on Monday after suffering back spasms during the warm-up.

But the 25-year-old pulled up well overnight and is expected to return to the field for the final day on Wednesday.

Richardson has been plagued by shoulder injuries in the past few years and more recently battled a side strain and an ankle complaint.
