REDLANDS has managed a remarkable coup, with the Australian and English Ashes test squads to play warm-up matches at Wellington Point's Redland Tigers cricket club grounds.
With Brisbane's Allan Border field undergoing work, the Redland club has stepped up, and the picturesque bayside grounds are in tip-top condition to host some of the world's best cricketers.
Locals can expect to see stars like Joe Root and Steve Smith, although with the club, Cricket Australia and Queensland Cricket not letting out too much information on the games, it is unclear how many of the world's leading players will take the field.
Capalaba MP and government whip Don Brown said it was a big opportunity for Redland cricket fans.
"It is a testament to the Tigers executive, members, volunteers and grounds staff," he said.
"I hope everyone gets an opportunity to get down to Peter Burge Oval to watch world-class cricket."
Oodgeroo MP Mark Robinson said he hoped locals would be able to rub shoulders with stars like Redlander Marnus Labuschagne and batsman Usman Khawaja.
"Local cricket fans will relish the opportunity to watch the Australian and English players train and play locally on our fine grounds and training facilities at Redlands Cricket Club," he said.
It comes as Labuschagne wins selection in Australia's Ashes squad and - at the time of going to press - was tipped as a long shot for captain after incumbent Tim Paine resigned over a sexting scandal.
South African-born Labuschagne is highly likely to retain his number three spot for the Gabba test in two weeks.
Local cricketers Sam Heazlett, Jimmy Peirson and James Bazley are also set to feature heavily for the Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat this summer.
Redlands has had a fine run of sporting achievements over recent years, with local athletes winning medals at the Tokyo Olympics and Capalaba FC's making the National Premier Leagues Women's Grand Final.
England started their Redland warm-up match on November 23, while Australia's three-day visit to the district begins on Wednesday, December 1.
