LABOR has promised to install one of 400 community batteries in the Redlands if it is successful at the federal election this year.
It is hoped the $200 million Power to People Battery Plan - announced in 2021 - will help reduce emissions, support the grid during peak times and cut power bills.
About 100,000 households across Australia are predicted to benefit from the initiative, which would allow properties with solar to pool excess electricity and draw on the reserves at night.
Labor proposes installing a battery at Birkdale, where more than 70 per cent of households are solar.

Bowman candidate Donisha Duff said it would be a win for Redlands, with a single battery able to support about 250 properties.
"Lowering power bills is central to Labor's plan for a better future," she said.
"For years now, the Liberals and Nationals have failed to deliver anything on energy policy and will do nothing to bring power prices down."
Labor climate change and energy spokesman Chris Bowen said the technology was already available, but only one in 60 Australian solar households had battery storage.
The plan would also also allow households that were unable to install solar, like apartment owners and renters, to draw from electricity stored in community batteries.
"Labor's Power to the People will unlock the full potential of rooftop solar for Australian households, lower power bills, cut emissions and help stabilise the grid," Mr Bowen said.
"Australian households have been voting with their feet on rooftop solar, but without battery storage, solar households are still reliant on the grid when the sun isn't shining."
