Volkswagen will launch its next-generation T7 Multivan in Australia in 2024 with two lengths, two trim levels and one engine.

The T7 Multivan, which moves to the MQB passenger car architecture, will arrive here in the fourth quarter of 2024. It was revealed all the way back in 2021, with strong demand in Europe blamed for the delay.
Just one engine will be offered at first, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel with 110kW of power and 360Nm of torque, mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It'll be available exclusively with front-wheel drive.
Volkswagen Australia, however, says another powertrain is due in 2025 but it hasn't specified which.
In Europe, the Multivan is offered with a choice of two turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines – a 100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre, and a 150kW/320Nm 2.0-litre – plus a plug-in hybrid.
The latter mates a turbo 1.4-litre four with an 85kW electric motor, 13kWh lithium-ion battery and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, for 160kW of power in total and 50km of electric-only range.
The Multivan will come with a 2+2+3 seating configuration, with the rear seats and multi-function table mounted on rails so they can slide to free up more space. They can also be removed entirely, while the armrests of both the front and rear seats can also be removed separately.
Volkswagen says the seats in the second and third rows are 25 per cent lighter to make seat removal a less back-breaking process. As the second row can swivel up to 180 degrees, passengers in the back can face one another.
Volkswagen Australia has provided some specification highlights for the new Multivan range.
The Life will come standard with the following equipment:

- Hands-free power sliding doors, tailgate
- Surround-view camera
- Semi-autonomous parking assist
It'll be offered in 14 exterior finishes, three of those being two-tone finishes.
The Multivan measures 4973mm long (5173mm in LWB guise), 1941mm wide and 1903mm tall.
It's not the only new-generation Volkswagen people carrier coming to Australia.
The electric ID. Buzz is also due in the fourth quarter of 2024, while a new Caravelle – based on the next-gen Transporter – is due sometime beyond 2024. It has yet to be revealed.
