Lamborghini today confirmed specifications for the powertrain of the as-yet unnamed Huracan replacement, putting previous rumours to bed.
The new supercar, codenamed LP634 and expected to be named Temerario, is powered by a bespoke 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft, capable of producing 588kW of power and 730Nm of torque on its own, with a rev limit of 10,000rpm.
This is considerably more than the peak 470kW and 565Nm outputs of the Huracan's 5.2-litre V10 in STO guise, but the upcoming supercar's figures continue to climb thanks to its hybrid system.
An axial electric motor sits between the V8 and its dual-clutch automatic transmission, providing up to 110kW and 300Nm of assistance, good enough to raise the combined values to 698kW and 1030Nm if all peak outputs are achieved at the same time.
There's no word yet on how large the battery feeding the electric motor is, or how long it'll be able to run on electric power.
Despite losing two cylinders and now having a pair of turbochargers muffling the exhaust, Lamborghini claims the characteristic engine notes its supercars have become known for haven't been lost.
"Another crucial element of the design process was to define the sound, to give the new powerplant a unique and distinctive character and deliver the driver an unparalleled driving experience," the carmaker said in its media statement.
"The characteristics of the new V8 intensify in a crescendo that at high revs reaches its peak in terms of volume and frequency content and this, in harmony with the vibrations transmitted to the chassis by the flat-plane crankshaft, creates an all-encompassing sensory experience."
Lamborghini's new supercar is due to be revealed in August 2024 at Pebble Beach before deliveries begin in 2025, joining the brand's lineup of hybrid models.
