BOWMAN MP Andrew Laming has challenged Labor to find one additional unhappy NBN customer.
Mr Laming said there were fewer than 100 complaints for the 8000 Redlands connections based on a one per cent complaint rate published by the Ombudsman every reporting period.
“Labor held a crisis meeting at the start of this month,” he said.
“I was the only MP in the nation to send a staff member to these ALP meetings and she offered to address any concern.
“But startlingly, there was not one specific concern raised at the meeting. NBNCo also attended and came away with not one specific concern.
“Labor’s first crisis appears to be they can’t find complaints, despite a table of uneaten catering at their poorly attended meeting.
“Their second crisis is that many are frustrated waiting to connect, but Labor’s alternative is six to eight years further away, due to slower roll-out. That would be a disaster for people living in blackspots.”
Mr Laming said he had repeatedly offered to assist anyone with an NBN concern on Kim Richard’s social media page.
Ms Richards said it was astounding that Mr Laming was defending the NBN when everyone said it was hopeless.
“He and (LNP Redlands candidate) Matt McEachan are clearly out of touch,” she said.
“I’ve lost count of the complaints received about the NBN across the Redlands from online, at listening posts and in forums.”
Ms Richards said that in September local businesses met at Victoria Point with Opposition communications spokeswoman Michelle Rowlands.
“They discussed their serious concerns about the NBN and it’s impact on businesses and economic growth across the Redlands,” she said.
“Everyone else knows that our community and it’s local businesses are hurting because of patchy connections to reliable telecommunication services, hampering their efforts to grow and engage in the digital economy.”
Ms Richards said it was time Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull started to deliver what he promised on NBN.
“We need action and the local LNP have proven themselves incapable of delivering it,” she said.
“If Andrew Laming and (LNP Redlands candidate) Matt McEachan think everything is tickety-boo with NBN ... then they are just not listening to our community.”
Mr Laming said he was calling Ms Richards out.
“(She is ) a roving complaints booth who when put under pressure, can’t actually find anyone with a complaint that I am not either already assisting or able to assist,” he said.
