The stage show, directed by Sue Willingham, is on for two Sunday performances only at Thornlands State School hall from 2pm on both October 28 and November 4.
Tickets are $10 each and can be bought at the door or in advance from U3A’s office at Cleveland District State High School.
Redlands U3A spokeswoman Julianne Whitehead said patrons would be entertained by dancing troupes, singing and comedic performances in the show, with light refreshments also served.
She said the musical was based on Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol – filled with the story’s characters – but with a scripted, chaotic twist.
The professional theatre company supposed to perform the classic tale fails to arrive, with amateur actors taking charge to put on the show.
“And chaotic is what it gets when the amateurs quickly find themselves out of their depth as they take on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol,” she said.
Ms Whitehead said two Tiny Tims, spirits, faeries, elves and Christmases Past, Present and Future would appear on stage with others.
“There are actors who steal each others parts and those who can’t help themselves and pop in and out of character and one who freezes the instant he gets on stage,” she said.
Starlite Dancers will perform There is no business like show business after the opening act This Is It, with Scottish dancers also set to entertain.
“The show’s musical content includes well known songs, some with words changed to suit the particular scene and some as they are written,” she said.
“The audience is welcome to join in and sing with the cast.”
“As is usual with Dickens, everything ends well and A Christmas Chaos is no exception.”
U3A’s office is at Room F5 at Cleveland District State High School, Russell Street.
