REDLAND Hospital’s memorial garden built by Redlands City Lions Club almost two decades ago will undergo a subtle revamp of old latticework, decking and benching.
Volunteer George Type said the garden, used by parents of stillborn babies, would be carefully tended to by club volunteers next month.
All the equipment for the job had been bought, but donations were needed to help the volunteer group recoup costs.
“Any contributions to the cost of these repairs would be greatly appreciated,” he said.
Mr Type said the memorial garden was built by the Redland City Lions Club in 2000 after members decided parents needed a place at the hospital to commemorate stillborn babies.
He said the group had also helped the hospital to get chaplin counselling.
“This area was constructed in 2000 and dedicated in October of that year,” he said.
“It has come to the club’s attention that ... structures are looking shabby and in need of a face lift and refurbishment.
“So with that in mind, the club is undertaking to replace the lattice (and) clean and stain the decking and benches.”
He said the volunteers would take care to not disturb memorials placed there by parents.
Mr Type said club members would also be manning a sausage sizzle at Cleveland State School’s 150 year fete on Saturday, November 3.
