STUDENTS at Victoria Point State School have raised more than $10,000 after taking part in a colourful fun run to raise funds for their school.
506 students competed in the run in white t-shirts, which were sprayed with all colours of the rainbow as they crossed the finish line.
Collectively, students raised $10,545, which will go towards new furniture and seating for the school’s technology centre.
Victoria Point State School Parents and Citizens Association executive member Ann-Marie Wilson said the students’ commitment to the run was admirable, and money raised would improve learning opportunities at the school.
“Our students are so excited about the money they’ve helped raise to upgrade the computer centre, and they thoroughly enjoyed participating in the fun run alongside their peers as they cheered each other on,” Ms Wilson said.
School Fun-Run Program Director, Brendan Hopp said the organisation was honoured to help Victoria Point State School raise much-needed funds.
“We love seeing the kids take part as they work on building active and healthy lifestyles,” Mr Hopp said.
Each year, roughly 280,000 students take part in fun runs, jogging a collective 560,000 kilometres, or approximately 13 laps around the world.
