THE Redlands could be on show to more than 130 million Netflix users when Tidelands hits screens.
The supernatural eight-part series will be launched globally by the streaming service on Friday, December 14.
The show, starring Elsa Pataky, Madeleine Madden, Aaron Jakubenko, Marco Pigossi and Mattias Inwood, follows Cal McTeer, a young woman who returns home to the small fishing village of Orphelin Bay after serving ten years in juvenile detention and jail.
Cal sets out to uncover the town’s secrets after a fisherman’s body is washed ashore while she investigates a commune of outcasts – a group of half-siren half-humans called Tidelanders – who live in a hidden pocket of the bay.
The supernatural crime drama is the first Australian-made series for Netflix.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the production had injected more than $12 million into the local economy and employed more than 500 Queenslanders.
“I hope viewers will feel inspired to come and explore the real Orphelin Bay and dive into their own adventure here in south-east Queensland,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
Locations at North Stradbroke Island, Cleveland, Victoria Point and Redland Bay are all featured in the show, forming parts of fictional town Orphelin Bay.
It is understood the Victoria Point Volunteer Marine Rescue base was also made to look like a police station for the series.
Redland City mayor Karen Williams she hoped the spotlight on Redlands Coast would attract more productions and visitors to the area.
Cr Williams said the series filmed in the Redlands between April and July this year across more than 20 days, boosting business for accommodation providers, restaurants, cafes and boating companies.
“This included 11 nights spent on North Stradbroke Island,” she said.
The series, written by Stephen M. Irwin and Leigh McGrath, was produced by Queensland production house Hoodlum Entertainment.
Hoodlum has also made series Secrets & Lies, The Strange Calls and Brisbane-set drama series Harrow, which is being filmed and set for screening on ABC1 in 2019.
