REDLANDS Tigers batsman Marnus Labuschagne has been named in Australia's 17-man Ashes squad announced by chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns tonight.
The 25-year-old will play his sixth test match if selected in the final XI for the opening game of the series at Birmingham on Thursday.
Labuschagne impressed in a Cricket Australia warm-up game this week, scoring 41 in bowler-friendly conditions.
He saw off the likes of Michael Neser, James Pattinson and Jackson Bird during his two-hour vigil while seasoned batsmen David Warner and Steven Smith scratched their way to single figure scores.
Labuschagne is currently the leading run scorer in division two of England's County Championship.
He averages 26.25 at test level with a high score of 81.
