REDLANDS Camera Club member and Capalaba resident Pia Jessen has represented Australia on a photography tour in Indonesia.
Ms Jessen was among 14 international photographers to take part in the Jailolo International Photography Week.
Other photographers came from countries like Bahrain, China, Malaysia, New Zealand and Vietnam.
"Our international group of photographers met in Jakarta, then travelled together to Jailolo, North Maluku, Indonesia," Ms Jessen said.
"The Maluku Islands are the original spice islands where merchants came to get cloves, nutmeg and mace."
Ms Jessen said the event was a fantastic experience.
"We were given the opportunity to explore and photograph the amazing island of Halmahera (Jailolo), its villages, meet the welcoming and friendly local people, enjoy many fun activities, landscapes, underwater, traditional arts, diverse culture and festival events," she said.
"It was also a fabulous opportunity to meet and mix with local and international photographers, sharing our ideas and perspectives.
A member of the Redlands Camera Club since 2008, Ms Jessen has held various roles like program director. She is also an active member of the Australian Photographic Society.
"In my various roles I champion international exhibitions, believing participating in exhibitions and competitions pushes photographers of all levels to develop, stretch and learn, as well as keeping abreast of current photography trends," she said.
"I'm passionate about adventure, people and culture, discovering new places and creating exciting travel itineraries for both cultural experiences and photographic opportunities."
Ms Jessen was invited to take part in the event by Art Photography Indonesia and the Indonesian tourism ministry.
She said that it was her participation in Asian photography groups that led to the invitation.
