A SMOKY haze at Cleveland is being caused by a planned burn in bushland off Wellington Street.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Rural Fire Brigade and council's parks and conservation crews started the burn about 9.30am.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services iZone officer Graham Wells said that about 23 hectares of bushland would be burned.
Most of the burning would be finished by 3pm on Tuesday, with some crews expected to monitor the area burned on Wednesday.
The crews were using the exercise as pre-fire season training.
Mr Wells said the crews were using a drone to monitor aspects like the direction of the smoke, how far into the bushland the smoke was travelling and ensure the safety of crews.
The unmanned aerial vehicle capability, used by QFES to take video footage and photos particularly at large incidents, was being rolled out to the service's seven regions.
Mr Wells said two representatives from the Bureau of Meteorology were at the scene of the prescribed burn.
"We utilise them for weather forecasting information ... and they are here to learn about what we do and how we use the information," he said.
Redland City Council said on social media that the burn in Wellington Street Bushland Refuge might cause some inconvenience but attempts were made to limit smoke hazards.
"Traffic management (advisory signs and smoke hazard signs) will be in place as a contingency in case smoke presents a hazard to localised streets," the council said.
"Motorists are advised to drive with caution and to conditions. Residents should close windows and doors, and keep medications close by if suffering a respiratory condition."
