Residents at Thornland's Moreton Shores retirement village celebrated more than 90 years of independent living over a cuppa on Wednesday.
The retirees spent the afternoon reminiscing about their life experiences in the company of village management and staff at the Bay Club, a communal area where residents go to relax and play cards.
Don and Joan Campbell live at the retirement village with their 70-year-old daughter Pam Elder.
The couple, who have been married for 71 years, said living among friends brought them great happiness.
"We've lived here for 11 years now," Mr Campbell said.
"We saw it from the days when a sign was put out the front saying a complex was going to be built.
"Our daughter's kids went to school in the Redlands and she's lived here for over 40 years."
Village manager Roger Hunt said the residents lived at Moreton Shores for as long as they were able to do so independently.
"They play cards, carpet bowls, scrabble, billiards and go on weekly shopping trips to keep busy," he said.
"They also have access to our library, the media room, computers and the pool for aqua aerobics."
Moreton Shores committee president Sandra Robson said the community atmosphere allowed people to live longer.
No one knows this sense of community better than Ivor Worrell, who has lived at the village for more than 12 years.
Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr Worrell is still living independently alongside good mates John Thornton and Eric Mullen at age 93.
