SNAKES are making their way into the nooks and crannies of people's homes as hatching season gets under way, Redlands snake catcher Tony Morrison says.
It comes as a man in his 50s was taken to hospital after a snake bite to the finger at Veitch Close in Wellington Point shortly before 1am on Tuesday morning.
Ambulance crews have also treated snake bites at spots including Clermont, Mackay, Bundaberg, Chapel Hill, Tin Can Bay, Toowoomba, Buderim, Agnes Waters and the Gold Coast in the last week.
Mr Morrison said he had not observed the number of snake bites rising around hatching time but people should still give all snakes a wide berth, no matter how small.
"A baby brown snake's venom is no different to an adult's," he said.
"Treat all snake bites as if they're venomous and seek immediate first aid."

Mr Morrison said there was usually 20 to 30 snake eggs per cluster, depending on species.
"Because they're so small they can get in and under doors, so we're finding a lot of younger snakes inside houses," Mr Morrison said.
"They're getting in all kinds of weird and wonderful places.
"The other day, we found a baby in the gap above someone's kitchen window. There was also one hiding in the louvres at a school."
He said venomous snakes tended to be more active during the day while species like pythons or tree snakes were out and about at night.
"We've got a mixture of both in the Redlands and they're living among us quite happily," he said.
If people are concerned about a snake in their home, they should try to get a picture from a safe distance and send it to a registered snake catcher.
"That way we can see what species we're dealing with and decide whether we need to come out," Mr Morrison said.
