A SMALL python has been wrenched from the engine of a car parked at Thornlands.
Redlands snake catcher Tony Morrison said he was called out on Tuesday to retrieve the snake, which was found by the vehicle’s owner during a battery inspection.
Mr Morrison said the snake had slithered into the car’s engine area after eating and would have likely stayed there for days if not disturbed.
“He's had a feed, he’s had a big rat and from there he has crawled up into the car, not realising it was a car,” Mr Morrison said.
The python could have been hurt if the ignition had been switched on, but the car’s battery was failing at the time.
Mr Morrison had the rescue filmed before posting the video on his Facebook page Redland’s Snake Catcher earlier today.
He said he was often called out to rescue snakes from car engines and was expecting more calls as summer approached.
He warned owners to clean up their yards and to remove old corrugated iron and other rubbish to stop snakes from visiting.
“Corrugated iron is like a hotel for snakes,” he said.
