A NEW ultrasound machine has been delivered to Redland Hospital to assist patients who need renal dialysis.
Redlands MP Kim Richards said the $30,000 investment would mean better access to world-class dialysis services for locals.
"This new machine will mean that we can provide more ultrasound-guided cannulation which will reduce bleeding, bruising, pain and stress for patients," she said.
"Receiving dialysis is stressful enough (so) anything we can do to make that easier for patients and our nurses is worth the investment.
"Redland residents like (patient Cassie Briebach) deserve to be able to access world class care locally here at Redland Hospital."
Renal nurse unit manager Sharon Cottingham said veins could often be difficult to find on renal patients who usually received treatment three times a week.
"Around a third of our patients need ultrasound guided cannulation and this second machine will allow us to treat more patients, more quickly and effectively and reduce their risk of complications and infection," she said.
Redland Hospital facility manager Susan Freiberg said she welcomed the new addition to the renal unit that would improve patient care and provide for advanced practice using the very best and most up-to-date equipment.
"This $30,000 ultrasound machine will help us treat patients living with kidney disease every single day, making their time in hospital more comfortable and improving their quality of life."
