ANZAC Day ceremonies across the country have been called off but Victoria Point war veteran Ken Berry was grateful to honour his mates in a different way.
Adventist Retirement Plus Victoria Point's Anzac commemorations saw Redlands bugler Lauren Folster playing the Last Post and Reveille outside the facility so residents could pay tribute to the Anzacs safely.
A Brisbane bagpiper also serenaded residents with songs like Amazing Grace and Danny Boy.
Lifestyle officer Emma Hoppner said with social distancing measures in place, staff had to think of alternative ways for residents to commemorate Anzac Day.
"A lot of (residents) when we have our usual services (will) come in their uniforms or with badges, some of them will speak and some of them will display their photos," she said.
"(This year) we've had to gather the residents in smaller groups with staff to have small services (and) we're having an Anzac singalong.
"The residents have been doing their usual preparations throughout the week like making wreaths (and) poppies."
Mr Berry gave a solemn salute to honour his fallen comrades while the Last Post was played, and displayed one of his wartime photos.
"It was taken in 1945. I was a sergeant and the other fellow was a corporal," he said.
April 25 is an important day for Mr Berry, whose father and older brother also served in the armed forces.
"I honour the Anzacs every year," he said.
Lifestyle officer Rose Smith said residents took great pride in attending Anzac services.
"They remember the fallen, their mates, it brought a lot of memories back for them."
